Our southern coastal location puts Cabin Bluff at an advantage in many ways – outstanding fishing, unbeatable weather, ideal habitat for deer, turkey, and quail. But there’s another benefit to being located here in coastal Georgia: extraordinary access to fresh, locally grown and harvested food.
A robust network of farmers and fishermen allows us to source everything from olive oil to seafood locally. As we’ve planned our Spring/Summer menu, we’ve kept some of the tried-and-true local favorites, like Wainwright’s Sausage, and added in a few new treasures, like High Road Ice Cream. Read on for more about some of our partners:
WJ Wainwright & Sons: The Wainwright family has been in the meat curing business since the 1930s. Located on a family farm just south of Nahunta, Georgia, they are a pillar in the community and are widely known for their long legacy of producing outstanding sausage. On the menu: You’ll find Wainwright’s country-style sausage on our breakfast menus and integrated into some of our dinner offerings.
Sweet Grass Dairy: A family-style business, Sweet Grass Dairy is our go-to for sustainably-produced artisan cheese. They’ve been dedicated to handcrafting world-class cow’s cheese for nearly two decades. On the menu: We serve up our farm-fresh scrambled eggs with Sweet Grass Dairy Gouda, and top our grilled potato salad with the dairy’s Asher Blue cheese, among many other many items.
Georgia Olive Farms: In 2011 Georgia Olive Farms harvested the first commercial crop of olives grown east of the Mississippi. Today, their olives go from field to mill in less than 24 hours, and the oil is collected from the first pressing of the fruit. The resulting oil is “smooth with a faint peppery kick.” On the menu: We toss local, seasonal vegetables with the EVOO before grilling or roasting, use it to season meats, and drizzle it over fresh salads. It’s truly a staple in our kitchen.
Spouse’s Bakery: Mallory and Vanessa are passionate bakers dedicated to using only high-quality, natural ingredients that take you back to the fresh, flavorful breads and sweets of childhood. No GMOs, chemicals or unpronouncable preservatives to be found. On the menu: A variety of freshly baked breakfast breads and pastries are available with breakfast each morning. We also use Spouse’s Bakery breads for sandwiches and sliders.
High Road Ice Cream: A new addition to the menu, High Road Craft Ice Cream started in Atlanta with a group of chefs focused on delivering ice cream with great flavor and luscious texture. They buy regionally-sourced nuts, buttermilk and berries, and even pasteurize their own dairy. On the menu: We’re topping our Georgia peach cobbler with High Road Lemon Blueberry, and the Blueberry Crisp with High Road’s banana’s Foster, among others.
