Hi there! I’m Scout – the newest member of the Cabin Bluff family. I’m a 16-week old Boykin Spaniel. They say by next year I’ll be ready to hunt quail with the big dogs – but I’ve got a lot to learn before then!
These days I’m really into chasing squirrels and birds around the yard – they are SO fast, but it is SO much fun to race around the yard after them! Ron, who I live with while I’m learnin’ the ropes, says this is a good sign that I have a great instinct to hunt and chase. I think I got it from my grandpa – he was an AKC Grand Champion.
I’ve been listening very closely to what’s in store for me in the next year. I want to be the best bird dog you’ve ever seen! Right now Ron says we are working on my drive. That’s the drive for the game of chase, the desire to be a predator, and the instinct to hunt for what I would need to eat if I was in the wild. For now we play games with fake birds, but soon I’ll be out in the woods interacting with real quail!
When I’m not giving squirrels and birds a run for their money I really like to hang out with guests around the Bluff, especially kids. I can’t wait to meet you. Be sure to say Hi next time you’re at Cabin Bluff.
What’s next for me? Learning to sit and wait after I’ve flushed birds out of the cover. That’s my job – flushing! I’d love to tell you about it in my next blog post – stay tuned!
